Power down and unplug a device before inspecting ports or vents. Stop if you see liquid damage, smell burning, hear arcing, or notice a swollen battery.
Give the console room to breathe
Keep intake and exhaust vents clear. Avoid enclosed cabinets during use, leave space around the console, and move it away from carpet, blankets, and other materials that trap dust or block airflow.
Clean the outside carefully
Power the console down and unplug it. Wipe exterior vents with a dry microfiber cloth and remove loose surface dust without pushing it deeper into the device. Avoid liquids, household vacuums directly on components, and opening the system unless you have the right tools and experience.
Notice the pattern
Write down whether the system overheats immediately or only during demanding games, whether the fan becomes unusually loud, and whether an error appears. A stalled fan, compacted internal dust, degraded thermal material, or an electronic fault can produce similar symptoms.
Stop after repeated shutdowns
A console that repeatedly warns about heat or switches itself off needs more than another restart. Let it cool completely and request an assessment before resuming long play sessions.
